Specjalnie dla naszych obcojęzycznych widzów poszerzamy formułę znanego i lubianego cyklu pokazów English friendly o rozmowę po filmie prowadzoną w języku angielskim. Podczas każdego spotkania zagramy film w języku angielskim z polskimi napisami. Po seansie gospodarz spotkania poprowadzi dyskusję w języku angielskim poprzedzoną autorskim wstępem i wprowadzeniem w tematykę i kontekst filmu. Do prowadzenia rozmów zapraszać będziemy wykładowców, studentów i absolwentów anglistyki, lektorów i tłumaczy.

Na kolejnym spotkaniu w ramach cyklu ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?, które odbędzie się 20 stycznia 2022, pokażemy film "Córka" Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Rozmowę po filmie poprowadzi dr Agnieszka Tambor - adiunkt w Instytucie Nauk o Kulturze Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach.


CÓRKA

Leda (Olivia Colman), odnosząca sukcesy kobieta w średnim wieku, jedzie na wakacje do Włoch. Na miejscu przez przypadek poznaje młodą matkę, Ninę (Dakota Johnson), i jej ekscentryczną rodzinę. Spotkanie z Niną prowokuje Ledę do konfrontacji z własną przeszłością i problemami macierzyństwa.

„Córka” zdobyła już szereg nagród i kilkadziesiąt nominacji, w tym nagrodę za scenariusz na festiwalu w Wenecji, trzy Gotham Awards (w tym dla najlepszego filmu!), dwie nominacje do Złotych Globów i cztery do Film Independent Spirit Awards. Tym samym „Córka” stała się jednym z najważniejszych kandydatów w Oscarowym wyścigu.

W obsadzie tego niezwykłego, chwytającego za serce, przewrotnego dramatu psychologicznego zobaczymy laureatkę Oscara Olivię Colman, Dakotę Johnson, Jassie Buckley, Eda Harrisa i Petera Sarsgaarda.

Film screenings and English Friendly discussions at Światowid Cinema.

Do you like movies and engaging conversations? Are you looking for a place where you could discuss films, not necessarily in Polish? Is English your passion? Would you like to improve your language skills in the company of the best movies of the season? Join us at Światowid Cinema in Katowice for film screenings and discussions in English.

With our non-Polish speaking guests in mind we are expanding the formula of our very popular English Friendly series to screenings with post-show conversations in English. During each meeting we will screen movies in English (with Polish subtitles). After this, the host will moderate a discussion (in English) related to the film, its theme and context. Our conversation leaders will be lecturers, translators and graduates of English philology.

During the next meeting of ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? series, which will be held on January 20th 2022, we will screen  „The Lost Daughter” Maggie Gyllenhaal. 

The post-show discussion will be hosted by PhD Agnieszka Tambor - assistant professor at the Intitute of Culture at the University of Silesia in Katowice.


THE LOST DAUGHTER

Leda is a middle-aged divorcee devoted to her work as an English teacher and to her two children. When her daughters leave home to be with their father in Canada, Leda anticipates a period of loneliness and longing. Instead, slightly embarrassed by the sensation, she feels liberated, as if her life has become lighter, easier. She decides to take a holiday by the sea, in a small coastal town in Greece. But after a few days of calm and quiet, things take a menacing turn. Leda encounters a family whose brash presence proves unsettling, at times even threatening. When a small, seemingly meaningless event occurs, Leda is overwhelmed by memories of the difficult, unconventional choices she made as a mother and their consequences for herself and her family. The seemingly serene tale of a woman's pleasant rediscovery of herself soon becomes the story of a ferocious confrontation with an unsettled past.
