Witajcie w Agbogbloshie – największym na świecie cmentarzysku elektroniki. Co roku nielegalnie trafia tu ćwierć miliona ton elektrośmieci z Zachodu. Setki ludzi demontuje tu przy pomocy młotków i łomów elektroniczne gadżety, by odzyskać miedź i aluminium. To prawdziwe piekło na ziemi – powietrze nieustannie zasnuwa toksyczny czarny dym z wszechobecnych ognisk, w których płoną przewody. Mroczny film Wegesammera i Kroenesa znakomicie oddaje apokaliptyczny klimat Sodomy – jak nazywają wysypisko miejscowi. Wysmakowanym zdjęciom, pełnym ognia i dymu, towarzyszą historie pracujących tu ludzi i tworzona przez nich muzyka. Oto ciemna strona technologicznego postępu, o której wolimy nie myśleć, kupując nowy smartfon.

Welcome to Agbogbloshie, the world's largest electronics cemetery. Every year, a quarter of a million tons of electronic waste from the West end up there illegally. Hundreds of people use hammers and crowbars to dismantle electronic gadgets in order to remove the copper and aluminum. It is truly hell on earth: the air is constantly filled with black, toxic smoke from ubiquitous fires burning wires. Wegesammer and Kroenes' dark film is a perfect reflection of the apocalyptic climate of Sodom, as locals call the dump. The stunning cinematography, filled with fire and smoke, is accompanied by stories of people working there and the music they create. This is the dark side of technological progress that we prefer not to think about when purchasing a new smartphone.



O festiwalu
Klimatyczny Festiwal Filmowy przybliży mieszkańcom Śląska tematykę ochrony środowiska. Celem Festiwalu jest również wskazanie na potrzebę pilnych działań w odpowiedzi na problemy, które płyną ze zmian klimatycznych. Chcemy zainspirować jak największą liczbę osób, by w domu i swoim najbliższym otoczeniu zmieniały styl życia na bardziej przyjazny środowisku. Łączymy siły z organizacjami o zasięgu ogólnopolskim, uczestniczącymi w szczycie klimatycznym w Katowicach, aby wspólnie ze światowymi liderami wesprzeć przesłania COP24.

Festiwal, odbywający się 7-9 grudnia w Kinoteatrze Rialto, to pokazy filmów, dyskusje, warsztaty i wydarzenia specjalne, które dadzą impuls do świadomego działania na rzecz środowiska. Pokazy połączone będą z dyskusjami, w których wezmą udział przedstawiciele organizacji ochrony środowiska, przedsiębiorcy, eksperci i aktywiści. Skupimy się na zmianie klimatu, zrównoważonym życiu, prawach człowieka, zagadnieniu zero waste, odpowiedzialnej turystyce, zagadnieniach lokalnych i COP24.

Wydarzenie organizują Ambasada Królestwa Niderlandów, Helsińska Fundacja Praw Człowieka, IKEA i Polityka Insight. Udział bezpłatny.


About festival
The Climate Film Festival is an event that brings climate-themed films to a diverse array of people from across the Upper Silesian metropolitan area. The aim is to raise public awareness of the urgency of climate change and the problems it poses to societies and individuals. The festival is also designed to inspire people to take action against climate change at home and in their communities by shifting to sustainable habits and living in a more environmentally-friendly way. We are aligning with partner organizations across the country to take part in the Climate Conference in Katowice and are bringing leaders from around the world to support the message of the COP24 summit.

The festival will run December 7-9 at Kinoteatr Rialto in Katowice, and will consist of screenings, discussions, workshops, and special events to spark green ideas. The screenings will be followed by panel discussions with leaders, experts and activists involved in business and environmental issues. We will be focusing on climate change, sustainable living, human rights, zero waste, environmental activism, responsible tourism, issues important to local communities and the COP24 summit itself.

The event is organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, IKEA and Polityka Insight. Participation is free of charge and open to the general public.
